Ponte...nas ondas! creates the first living library of the Galician-Portuguese intangible heritage with living books from Galicia, Portugal and Brazil. In the actual edition of the multimedia broadcasting day other living books from Cuba, Argentina, Colombia or Chile will appear too. The XVIIth edition of Ponte...nas ondas! will be on air through the internet from this site thanks to the signal offered by UVIGO-TV from the University of Vigo. The programmes can be watched that very same day or lately, for they’ll be uploaded and at everyone’s disposal.
Students from Galicia and Portugal, basically, but also from Cuba or Brazil have made programmes in video format which you’ll be able of watching in the site. From now on, Association Ponte...nas ondas! is going to work in a project which aim is to create a permanent living library of the Galician – Portuguese intangible heritage. From the 3r June every school, association, community or individual person interested in this topic will have the opportunity of adding a living book. The objective is to spread the idea of the living books - people with outstanding knowledge and skills, worth to be shared and taught to the society in general- taking the advantage of the ICT.
A DAY TO MAKE IT KNOWN
Last 26th May, Association Ponte...nas ondas! organized a Living Library at the Museum Verbum in Vigo in which living books from Galicia and Portugal took part. More than 200 students from both territories learnt about living libraries and living books, and had also the opportunity of reading-listening to them.
The living libraries is an idea born in Denmark which is spreading all around the world, the methodology used in them being slightly different from one country to another. For instance, in Istanbul’s, visitors watch the whole catalogue of books first (that is the group of people which constitutes the living library) and then they choose one and sit for a 30 minutes conversation with him/her.
As Meri Izrail, the library director, says: “OK we have different book titles available: we have gays; we have Greeks; we will have schizophrenics; bisexual; visually impaired; Arab; NGO worker; headscarf wearing women; transsexual; Armenian; Kurdish; and, Alevi."
Last March in Vigo, the Association Xandobela, from Santiago de Compostela, was in charge of a Living Library destined to Primary and Secondary schools in the city.
