The awards ceremony of the 5th Galician-Portuguese Oral Tradition Sample Collection Open, organized by the cultural and educational association Ponte...nas ondas! was celebrated last Friday the 18th. The title of this edition was “The Living Libraries: Life stories”

About one hundred people representing the winning schools attended a ceremony in the hall of the Cámara de Valença do Miño in which there was time for awards and entertaining musical performances. The schools awarded this year were: Jardim de Infancia de Boavista Aldreu de la Cámara de Guimaraes, Agrupamento de Escuelas Abel Barzim de Villa Seca Cámara de Barcelos, Escuela Secundaria de Arouca, IES Fontem Albei de A Fonsagrada, Escuela Básica 2,3 de Briteiros and a consolation prize to Programa Mentor IGAXÉS 3 del Instituto Galego para o Terceiro Sector de Ourense.

The minutes of the jury appreciated the cooperation of the participating teachers and students because with their interest, they show that "promoting a future for the common culture raises awareness between the younger generations about the importance of the conservation and the generational transmission of the knowledge and techniques and knowledge that we were bequeathed"

Presided over the ceremony the mayor of Valença do Miño Jorge Mendes, Mayor of Guimaraes Antonio Magalhaes, President and Vice President of Ponte ... nas ondas! Santiago Veloso and Lourdes Carita respectively, being the presenter Xerardo Feijoo, secretary of the association.

The titles of the awarded works show the variety in the field of intangible heritage and also a wide range of "living books" that are the people who hold the knowledge that we are interested in rescuing. Some of these titles are: "Entre o Traje Regional e a lenda...un libro vivo: D.Gracinda", "As bibliotecas vivas: Dª Palmira e Dª Almerinda Casanova","Fragmentos de felicidade", "Manuel, mestre de lembranzas", "Historia da criaçao do grupo folclórico da Casa do Povo de Briteiros" e "A profisión de Naceiro. Vivencias de dous mestres afiadores de Ourense"

At the end of the awards ceremony we proceeded to call the 6th Galician-Portuguese Oral Tradition Collection Open with the title "Ponte…a contar" (Start telling) which invites Galician and Portuguese schools to delve into the memories of the treasure bearers and rescue the old folk tales gathered in them to show them to future generations.
